Alexander Finbow - Thursday, January 20, 2011
The world's greatest classic horror short story audiobook event has hit double digits. Try saying that out loud without taking a deep breath.

Today, as we celebrate day 10 of The 13 Days of Spinechillers, we'll take a moment to reflect on what has come before...and what's new.
So far we've had 9 brilliant tales of terror released for download; the volume 7 CD has been signed off for manufacturing, and you can now search our entire website for anything you want (try searching for frog, go on, try it). We're also in the process of adding clips for each story to give you a sample to tempt your aural tastebuds

There we go, now back to today's story.

Arthur Conan Doyle returns to us with a tale straight form the dark, damp caves beneath the earth, a tale of monsters, brave deeds and a descent into the dangerous caverns beneath our feet.

Today's Spinechiller is Arthur Conan Doyle's The Terror of Blue John Gap.

Written in 1912 , Doyle's story of a doctor venturing into caves in the limestone hills beneath Derbyshire,  there discovering a hidden world that has evolved around a subterranean lake, echoes themes he tackles in his much adapted story The Lost World.

This story's hero, Dr Hardcastle has a hard time convincing anyone to believe him, despite mysterious disappearances,  and he decides to take matters into his own hands and seek out the beast and deal with it once and for all.

The Terror of the Blue John Gap is read by Doug with music and sound design from Dan Woods.

Part 1 is 19 minutes long and you will find it dwelling here. The concluding Part 2 is 27 minutes long and is creeping up on you here.

The audiobook is a high quality 320kbps MP3 file which includes the cover artwork by Dan Woods. We recorded at the Audio Workshop in London. Joseph Degnan was the recording engineer. This audiobook will open just fine in itunes, windows media player or any other type of MP3 player you prefer to use.

We hope you enjoy this audiobook. Swing by tomorrow for Day 11 of The 13 Days of Spinechillers when we'll release a fresh, new story by a master of classic horror for your listening pleasure.
