Our first major event of 2011 reaches its climax with our audiobook production for one of Edgar Allan Poe's most famous short stories.
Very different in tone and writing style to our last Poe presentation, William Wilson, Ligeia is poetic rather than logical, and often cited as being part of American Romanticism.
The plot follows our narrator, who describes himself as an opium addict, as he struggles with his relationship to the strong and beautiful Ligeia. I'm not giving too much away by saying that her untimely death may not prevent her from staying part of the narrators life.
Ligeia has been adapted several times for the big screen, first by 'Chinatown' screenwriter Robert Towne for Roger Corman's 1964 production 'The Tomb of Ligeia' starring Vincent Price. Alfred Hitchcock then developed the themes further for his thriller Vertigo.
Doug Bradley reads this story, handling with panache Poe's prose that has left other audiobook narrators in a hopeless tongue tied mess. It's a bewitching tale, produced beautifully and accompanied by Dan Woods haunting score. There are clips from each story to listen to now, so you can hear Doug's reassuring voice instantly.
The audiobook is a high quality 320kbps MP3 file which includes the
cover artwork by
Dan Woods. We
recorded at the Audio Workshop in London. Joseph Degnan was
the recording engineer. This audiobook will open just fine in itunes, windows media
player or any other type of MP3 player you prefer to use.
We hope you enjoy Ligeia, we're very proud of how this audiobook turned out.
And with Poe's words echoing into our subconscious The 13 Days of Spinechillers draws to a close. The special offer prices for all these stories will remain in place till the end of the week so there is still time to download your favourite classic horror audiobooks read by the best in the business.
