The 13 Days of Spinechillers - Day 1: Lovecraft's The Rats In The Walls

Alexander Finbow - Wednesday, January 12, 2011
This special audiobook event kicks off with one of my favourite Lovecraft stories, and a story many believe to be the first of his greats. It is a genuine Gothic horror, it is 'The Rats in the Walls'.

Lovecraft's narrator, Delapore, takes us on a journey from America to his crumbling ancestral home in England as he goes about restoring it to its former glory whilst researching the strange and disturbing history of his family and the estate.

When it came to recording the audiobook version, our expectations were high and the adrenaline was pumping. Listening to Doug orate this dark tale literally sent chills down our spines, and his interpretation of the final scenes as the story reaches its truly horrifying climax brought on a spontaneous standing ovation from all in the recording studio.

Adding to Doug's award worthy reading is a stripped back score from James E Barker and Tim Despic that wraps the story in a soundscape full of unseen menace and danger.

But don't just take my word for it, download it now to experience this genuinely brilliant tale of terror for yourself.

The story is presented in two parts, mainly due to the arcane file size limits adobe Business Catalyst has in place. Part 1 is 29 minutes long and Part 2 runs to 27 minutes. The cover art is included with the download, and the audio is high quality MP3.

Part one is available here for just 99 cents, and part 2 here also only 99 cents.

We hope you enjoy this great tale from Lovecraft and check back with us tomorrow for the second release in The 13 Days  of Spinechillers.
