Back to school

Alexander Finbow - Monday, September 14, 2015

Where did summer go? Feels like it slipped into the past far too quickly this year. On the plus side, September does mean that learning is once again front and centre in the minds of many people young and old and whether you have great teachers or a lunatic who does a great praying mantis impression, finding the right learning materials is important for everyone. For Canadians, and those interested in learning about Canadian history, we have three books perfect for you. Our latest publication, The Loxleys and Confederation hardcover graphic novel, is the story of Canada Day written By Mark Zuehlke and illustrated by Claude St. Aubin. It's a great gateway story to finding out how Canada became a country against the backdrop of the American civil war, the Fenian raids, trade embargoes and immigrant expansion across the north. Canadian Materials magazine called it RECOMMENDED in their review this month,'The Loxleys and Confederation will appeal to young readers, including reluctant readers who may be more comfortable with a graphic novel rather than a more text-heavy history-based work', here's the link to read the full review.

Triple Rainbow

Alexander Finbow - Monday, June 09, 2014

The voice of Spinechillers, Doug Bradley, was invited to the Lovecraft Film Festival and Cthulhu Con, down in Portland to host a screening of Hellraiser alongside our own The Outsider short film, they also finally presented Doug with the Best Dramatic Reading award for his performance in The Outsider that he'd won back in 2008. It's a cool statue and we're happy to see it safely on it's way to Doug's mantle piece. Click on the picture to see more details on The Outsider and watch a clip of Doug's performance in the film.

Right now I am supposed to be finishing off the recap story on our time at the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo, but breaking news has persuaded me to tell you about this first. We've just learned that The Loxleys and the War of 1812 is a finalist in the Alberta Book of the Year Awards, for the category of Best Children's and Young Adult Book. Which is pretty exciting.
