Inspired by Doug Bradley's love of classic horror authors including; H.P Lovecraft, Edgar Allan Poe and Ambrose Bierce, we set out to record the definitive versions of their best loved stories.
Doug and Robert in the recording studio
Each story has been recorded by award winning audio book Doug himself or by a guest star reader like horror icons Robert Englund and Jeff Combs.
Under Doug's direction, original music and sound design is added to each story by composers with a background in movie soundtrack production. The resulting stories have been crafted to deliver not only the best reading available but also an immersive experience to really suck the listener into narrative.
The 13 Spinechillers CDs each contain carefully selected stories from the authors represented, and each individual story and poem is available from our download store as an mp3.
The ghost of a disastrous train derailment. A vengeful court jester. And three wishes gone horribly wrong. Narrator Doug Bradley, who is best known as the infamous Pinhead in the Hellraiser film series, leads the listener on an affectionate survey of the horror genre's nineteenth-century literary roots. Bradley narrates these stories with perfect pace and clarity. He’s at ease handling the rich vocabulary and complex sentences of the well-known pieces such as Poe's "Tell-Tale Heart" and Stevenson's "The Body Snatcher." The twinkle of devilish delight one hears in Bradley's voice lifts these readings above the norm. In his introductions Bradley reveals that many of these stories were childhood favorites. That adds a lot to the performance. B.P. © AudioFile 2010, Portland, Maine [Published: MARCH 2010]
